E-technology skills encompass a wide range of competencies, including digital communication, collaboration, project management, data analysis, and more. These skills are essential for leaders to effectively lead virtual and remote teams, manage projects, make data-driven decisions, and stay current with technological advancements. Leaders who possess e-technology skills are better equipped to adapt to new technologies, streamline processes, and improve communication and collaboration within their organizations. These skills also enable leaders to make data-driven decisions, which can lead to improved performance and increased efficiency.

Despite the benefits of e-technology skills, leaders often face challenges in integrating digital tools into their leadership practices. Common challenges include resistance to change, lack of technical expertise, information overload, and security concerns. It is important for leaders to address these challenges proactively and develop strategies to overcome them. Leaders must continually assess the impact of e-technology on their leadership practices and adjust their approach accordingly. By measuring the effectiveness of digital tools in communication, collaboration, project management, and decision-making, leaders can determine the ROI of their investment in e-technology and identify areas for improvement.

e-technology skills are essential for leaders to thrive in the digital age. By defining these skills, understanding their importance, identifying common challenges, and evaluating their impact, leaders can develop effective strategies for integrating e-technology into their leadership practices.

Digital transformation enables various opportunities for companies to become more efficient and productive in meeting management challenges and to create new products and services that differentiate them from the competition. One of the key benefits of digital transformation in the area of organisational culture is that workers are more flexible and agile in their work. The use of cloud-based tools and connectivity platforms can make it much easier for employees to do their work, for example, from anywhere and at any time while can at the same time allow a better work-life balance and a faster response to changing business needs.

Besides, digital transformation brings also challenges for companies and employees – adapting employees to new technologies and acquiring new skills. The E(U)-leaders project responds to the need for (further) training aimed at developing leadership competences in the context of teleworking. It supports the digital transformation of companies by developing a comprehensive and reliable set of digital tools and approaches for assessing, developing, evaluating, and certifying e-leadership skills.  Teleworking has potential benefits such as better job performance, job satisfaction, reduced work-family imbalance, lower stress levels and less shift turnover. The benefits are even more evident when employees feel supported by management, colleagues, and technology. But we have to admit, that leadership and management roles in teleworking are more distinct than in traditional workplaces. Managers need to adapt traditional management practices to a technology-driven environment (Capgemini Consulting, 2011).

Therefore, e-leadership is an upgrade of traditional leadership that requires leaders to change their practices and develop certain skills to improve organisational performance in virtual work environments and has to include the effective use of electronic and traditional methods of communication, which means integrating remote and non-remote methods depending on the purpose, building trust with each individual in the team, establishing a virtual “presence” that prevents distance from becoming a barrier, and fostering healthy teams through interactions.
